The story begins with a young Bruce Wayne witnessing his parents' tragic murder. Ten years later, seeking to understand the criminal mind and rid Gotham City of systemic corruption, Bruce travels to Nanda Parbat. He is recruited by Ra's al Ghul into the League of Shadows, where he endures intense ninjutsu training alongside Ra's' daughter, Talia. When Bruce discovers that Ra's intends to destroy a "beyond saving" Gotham, he burns down the temple and parts ways with the League.
